Aspirations

I believe in the power of relationships to heal and transform. We learn how to love and be loved through relationships and the challenges they bring. Rupture, conflict, and trauma are human relational experiences, but they are not primary. What is primary are empathy, kindness, clarity, and resilience, which are pathways to repair, healing, expansion.

The wisdom teachings of contemplative traditions and contemporary research in neuroscience show us that our nervous systems have real, felt impact on those around us. When we are emotionally regulated and centered, we can better attune and attend to ourselves and others. This is true for caregivers in supporting their children when they struggle with emotional dysregulation, and for intimate partnerships when relational dynamics give rise to charged emotions and our deepest vulnerabilities. Oftentimes, our patterns of interaction and personal struggles can be traced through the generations, further shaped by contexts of culture, class, migration histories, and other aspects of lived experience.

My goal is help individuals and family members make sense of these experiences through the creation of coherent psychospiritual and embodied narratives as a path back into wholeness. Relational therapy can support couples and families in navigating the day-to-day challenges of relational life and breaking painful cycles of interaction. Through my therapeutic approach, I aim to support my clients in accessing their own innate clarity and spiritual resource to release internal blocks to happiness, and to gain insight into and skillfully work with reactive patterns that may be getting in the way of being in more compassionate connection with themselves and others.

Intergenerational histories of relational wounding and trauma are salient issues I work with in much of my clinical work. Research and neuroscience have shown how trauma lives in the body. We need more than language to work with the deeper layers of wounding, which is why I believe so strongly in the power of mind-body practices, embodied somatic integration, and aesthetic experience along with talk therapy to facilitate healing and transformation. And for clients who identify as people of the global majority, a decolonized understanding of trauma and healing is also integral to reclaiming wellness and how you define this on your own terms.

As a therapist, I believe you have the wisdom and capacity to heal already within you. I will work collaboratively with you and/or your family to access this, find deeper clarity in the challenges you face, and create your pathways of healing.

Occasionally, I integrate mindfulness, meditation, and somatic practices with talk therapy. Some of the benefits of this include:
  • Increased or expanded awareness of your emotional and cognitive stress-based reactions
  • Deeper awareness and insight into the sources of your thoughts, emotions, and somatic experiences
  • Greater capacity to not act upon reactive emotions and to make more skillful choices that enhance communication and connection
  • Development of authentic empathic understanding and compassion for yourself and others
  • Deeper bonds through a shared practice and language of mindfulness
